Behind The Scene
"If you don't realize the importance of building relationships in business then
you can't possibly understand the importance of branding." Lauryn D'Agostino
After relocating and rebranding her small spray tan business, Lauryn D'Agostino discovered her passion for branding and marketing. This passion inspired her to launch a freelance marketing career in 2013, eventually founding Social Marketing Scene—a full-service marketing company that specializes in digital and social media marketing, as well as branding and public relations.

In 2015, Lauryn returned to her hometown with a vision. She crafted a comprehensive business plan for a marketing agency that also offered online courses for freelancers and business owners, as well as training programs for employees. By 2019, Social Marketing Scene was up and running, starting as a vibrant Facebook Group called CT Social. This group connected local business owners, teaching them how to collaborate and expand their reach. Thanks to Lauryn's sales strategy and hard work, the business hit the ground running. In a short time, she quadrupled her client base, helping small, medium, and large businesses, as well as non-profits, from Connecticut to Florida. She also provided online training classes for various companies and helped young entrepreneurs not only learn marketing but also the basics of opening a business. Social Marketing Scene quickly transformed into the thriving business it is today. Lauryn firmly believes that her success is tied to the success of her clients, and she makes it her priority to build strong, meaningful relationships with each of them.

But Lauryn’s story doesn’t stop there. When TikTok was introduced, she took the time to learn the platform and research best practices. While she was busy trying to figure out how the algorithm worked, her husband had a brilliant idea. He came home one day and asked Lauryn to watch a video while he filmed her reaction. She was confused but curious, so she agreed. The video showed an adorable baby gagging, and as Lauryn read the caption, her own sensitive gag reflex kicked in, making her gag with every word.
Afterward, her husband handed her the phone and encouraged her to post the video, using all the knowledge she had gained through her studies. She was hesitant but knew her husband was a true consumer of engaging and comical content, so she trusted his idea and went for it. The video took off, gaining millions of views almost overnight. Snippets of their antics were shared everywhere—from Barstool Sports to The Breakfast Club, YMH Podcast, and radio shows like Elvis Duran and Chaz & AJ. She and her husband were featured on different podcasts, most notably Ask Dr. Drew. This experience didn’t just give Lauryn an edge by providing her access to millions of viewers for her clients—it also taught her something no school, course, certificate, or masterclass could buy: real-world experience of what is truly important in social media, what makes content go viral, and the power of influencer marketing.
Beyond her work with Social Marketing Scene, Lauryn and her husband have also built a strong social media presence. Their TikTok account, which started with that one viral video, has grown to 1.5 million followers. Their success extended to other platforms as well, with over 100,000 followers each on Instagram, over 150,000 subscribers on YouTube (earning them a YouTube Silver Creator Award), and over 200,000 followers on Facebook.

Recognizing the importance of understanding human behavior in marketing, Lauryn decided to further her education by returning to school. She enrolled at Southern New Hampshire University, where she obtained a B.A. in Psychology. During her academic studies, she focused on consumer psychology, earning a CITI certification in social and behavioral research, and was inducted into The National Society of Leadership and Success.

The business continues to grow, not just with clients and students but also with interns and recently hired employees. After four years of doing contract work for Southbury Plaza, Lauryn was also offered the position of Marketing Director for the Southbury Merchant Association, where she oversees marketing for the Plaza and their 26 merchants. As the business continues to grow and expand, she welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with new faces.
